The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 345

October 14th 1887
57 Brisbane St,
Hobart,
My Dear Grandma,

I cannot commence my letter by saying we received a letter from you for we have not received one for the last two months. We are looking forward to the next mail which is due on the 29th. Then I think we will get an answer to the sad news.

We are still in the same house. I do wish we were in some place of business of some kind as the time seems so long and we still feel so very lonely. I am sure we will never feel otherwise. Mother is, I am glad to say, better than when I last wrote.

I was down at dear Father’s grave yesterday. Willie and George are still in the same situation and are getting on very well. We received the 10 pounds from the bank after the will was proved and were very thankful to you for it. Mother has managed to send Maria, Jim and Charlie to school.

I am to take a class at the ‘Primitive Methodist’ Sunday School next Sunday. It was the only Church here Father liked so I know I am doing his will to do so. I hope all our aunts and uncles are quite well. I will be so glad to when the time comes for us to get a letter from them. I have had a very sore hand since I last wrote but it is better now.

Uncle Luke was here last evening. It is so nice having him in ‘Hobart’ now. He is so jolly and his wife is so nice also.

We are going to put Tassie in trousers on the 8th of next month. He is getting so big and on that date he will be four years old. He has such nice long curly hair. Poor father was so proud of it. I must now conclude with love to Aunts and Uncles in which mother and all join,

I remain dear Grandma,

Your affect Grandchild,

Annie Parkinson
