The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 294

Iron Pot
February 23rd 1883
My dear Aunt Annie

You must think me very ungrateful for not writing to thank you for the two nice books that you sent me but I am very sorry to say the jam which you sent spoilt them. I am glad to be able to tell you Willy and George are at school at "South Arm". They go every morning and return about 6 pm. They have three miles to walk but seem to like it very much. Will you thank dear Grandma very much for the pretty birthday card which she sent me. Mamma gave me a very pretty silver chain on my last birthday.

George was so pleased with the letter which he received from Grandma. Papa has been very busy gardening all day at "South Arm".

Mamma is writing to Grandma. Mamma and Papa have been up to town lately and they went on board the large "Man of War" "Nelson" and had tea with the Surgeon.

I am making a counterpane for Mamma’s bed. We have a grand exhibition in Hobart now. Mamma is going to let me go up to it. I do not think I have any more news. With much love to Grandma, Aunts Frances Maria Bessy and Kate and uncles Sam and George. I am dear Aunt Annie, your affectionate niece
