The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 269

March 14 1881
18 Murray Street
My dear Grandma,

I have some very sorrowful news to tell you and know I must tell you what it is. It is that Grandma Upton died last Sunday evening in Church and I think it was a very nice place for her to die.

Papa received your kind and welcome letter last Friday and we were all very glad to hear from you.

I am still at Mrs Cunningham’s School and like it very much. Mr Cunningham has 4 boarders besides myself viz. Miss Broch, Miss Smith, and two little Heathorns. We all went out to Mr Babingtons last Friday and she said I was getting on well with my music very nicely.

Uncle took a boat down to the Iron Pot for Mamma and Papa the day after poor Grandma’s death. Papa wishes he could get some place for Willie to go to School. My grandma did not answer my letter that I sent to her.

So with with love to Aunts and Uncles,

I remain dear Grandma,

Your loving granddaughter

Annie Parkinson.
