The James Cumine Parkinson Letters |
Letter 154City of Hobart S.S. Sydney June 14th 1868 My dear Mother, I thought I might as well write to you as the mail will close before we get back to Hobart Town. Through an accident in our machinery I have seen Mr Graham since I have been here and I recollect him well. He enquired for Sam and the Kerrs. He has a splendid church here and a large congregation. Also I found out a cousin of Chris of the name of Harris who is in a situation here. I did not know if Chris would write in answer to your last. I see by the papers that the poor old Church is in danger but if she is faithful she will be brought through her trials. Times are very bad here as well as well as in town. In my last I told you that I had to give up business and I intend remaining in this vessel till I can get some employment on shore. We do not be long away about a fortnight. I intend going to hear Mr G tonight. Chris was well when I left and so was Annie I hope she will be spared. She is very healthy. I have not much to tell you but hope you are all well. I see by the papers that the Earl of Roden is better. Give my love to all at home and remain your affect, James C Parkinson |
