The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 152

1867(?)
Hobartown,
160 Liverpool St
My Dear Sam,

I received your last and also one from Mother and Aunt. I am sorry that you did not mention your wishes before the money came out, as you might have taken what you required for your passage as I offered it to Catherine. I hope neither she or you are under the impression that I would think you or her a burden on me, but at the time Kate mentioned it before I was single and had no home to offer her. It is different now as I have a shop in the principal street in Town in the grocery line. Things are very dull at present but if you cannot get anything to do in the meantime, I think I will be able to get you some employment here. You should bring some references with you as you might get a situation according to your education. I am sorry that I cannot send for you as an emigrant as now but emigrants can get their relations out. I therefore send you an order for 10 pounds to help to pay your passage out and perhaps someone will advance you the rest. I will send you £5 more if you should require it. Let me know but as I am just starting in business I have been at great out lay or I would send you the full amount at once. Be careful in the selection of your ship and God give you wisdom. We are doing very well since we commenced considering the times and hope to do better by and by. Tell Aunt that I received her letter and will answer it next mail. Please tell mother that I shall not write to her this time as I am sending the order but both Christina and I are well and send our affect love to her and all at home. Chris thanks Annie for the necktie and will write next mail. We got 2 newspapers and you need not send the London news as we see it here. I send the H. MorningI hope you have got the box before now and with kind love to all I remain.

Yours effect

My dear Mother,

You must excuse me not writing to you this time as I am rather hurried. I send Sam £10 to help to pay his passage and what ever money it will take I will forward if you let me know. Thank God I hope I have done with the sea and I am doing well and love to all,
