The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 131

Hunt’s Station,
20 August 1865
Dearest Mamma,

You will be surprised when you come to the end of this letter to know where I am going to. When we were in Sydney we got a letter from Harry’s uncle at Korong? telling us to come up to him. We stayed there two weeks. H and Jack got situations such as they were. Their uncle put off two men to get them in but there was none for me, so it would not do to stay living on them so I started up the country with one of the men a first rate fellow an Englishman. But this country there are hundreds on the road looking for work and cant get it so we will buy a horse at Swan Hill and start to Queensland land it is the only chance of a man getting on. I cannot explain it to you now but part of the country is done all together Do not write any letters to till you get one from me as I would not get them as we will always (be) on the move, it would only be lost money. But cheer up Mamma. I will do it yet and come home with money. I have not time or space for more.

But believe me, Dear Mamma, Ever your affect son

S.S. Parkinson (Love to all)
