The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 90

Liverpool
December 11th 1860
Dear Mamma

I have at last got ashore as we docked this day and am at Mr Montgomery’s. All the crew are to be discharged as the ship has to undergo repairs which may delay her several weeks. I asked the Captain but he does not want anyone to stop by the ship but he would ship me again if I wanted, but I intend as soon as I get my discharge to ship again for some long voyage as I should not like to go to Melbourne without some money, but I intend to make this trip and then either go to N Zealand or Australia and settle down. You may not be under any apprehension on account of money as my advance will be quite sufficient for every expense as I have abundance of clothes. You just try and make yourself comfortable and be under no apprehension for me, as a month knocking about in the channel has taken the nonsense out of me and as soon as ever I am in a position I will not forget to try and make up for the privation?? I have caused you all. I will write and let you know where I am going I expect about this day week. I look about 20 per cent better than when you saw me, and never enjoyed better health. I will do what is best about the clothing chest. I recd’ the parcel by Tennason?? Give my love to all and believe me

yours

James C Parkinson

Mr and Mrs M desire to be remembered to you
