The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 63

Birkenhead
Sunday 1853
Dear Mamma

I received yours this morning and went over to L’pool to the Steamer and got the basket and its contents safe, and am much obliged. The eggs will be very acceptable when I go to sea. Tell Grandma I will do all I can this voyage to improve myself both in mind and body and hope that she will be spared until I come back. I get on very well now I have not had a word from the Capt since. Mrs S I believe is very sickly I have not seen her this few days. I had a letter from Father on Friday but I did not answer it until today. I am glad to hear that Mary is better and hope that she will soon be able to go about again. I have not seen W.M. yet but will give him a good scolding. We have very heavy gales of wind. Last Sunday several ships were severely injured in the river and I believe there have been a good many wrecks on the coast. I hope the weather will be more moderate before we sail. Tell Grandma that I hope she will not be uneasy about me and keep her spirit up and I hope her appetite will improve.

Give my most affect love to Grandma, Aunt Maria, Annie, Willie Sam and George also Mrs and Joe S. Miss L Mary Sarah Margaret Susy Mr L and believe me ever

Your affect son

James C Parkinson
