The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 60

Birkenhead,
Sept. 14th 1853
My dear Father,

I received your letter two days ago and had not time to answer either it or the other enclosed. I am not put to more menial employment than what I was accustomed to before and in fact I am more in a position to learn my business now than before and I would much rather remain so. But as you wish if the Capt. offers it I shall accept it. And I think that there might be some likelihood of it.

I am exceedingly grieved by the sorrow I have caused and indeed I am not worthy to have you as my parents, but I hope that brighter days will come. I will write to you and Mamma on Sunday and will have more time.

Tell Frances that the tortoise may only be in a torpid state as they sleep half the winter. Tell Mamma that I am sorry that I did not another pair of shoes from Tom but I can buy a pair here and also that I have every thing to make me comfortable.

Affect love to all, your obedient,

James C. Parkinson.
