The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 42

Liverpool,
Nov 4th 1851
Dear Mamma,

I received your letter together with the 6 postage st. yesterday but did not answer immediately as I thought we would not sail so soon as I hear we shall, but I think you will have time should you write by return of post to send some cash to purchase the finery? which might be useful. I intend to send back my good suit by Capt. Stowell to Belfast to be left at Dr Aickens as they would only be spoiled on the passage and you can send to Belfast for them as I have enough without them. I spent a very pleasant Hallow eve and had both apples and nuts in abundance. Last night Capt. Scott invited me to tea and passed a very pleasant evening. We have got one other Apprentice from Glamorganshire who seems to be very respectable young lad. He is paying a premium of £15 for three years and does not receive any wages. I have heard that this prepared Cocoa is the best to bring out as it takes no cooking so intend to get some. The Capt. mentioned that he thought we should sail on Saturday but I do not think before Monday or Tuesday. I hope you will not forget to tell John Hanna to give the little boat a good coat of tar and take care of her. I was very sorry to hear of Uncle Edwards daughters death and will write if I have time. I was not at Hugh McKalls. Church as I could not find out where he preached. Please remember me to Mr West and say I was sorry that I did not see him also to Mr Gracey, Miss Lascelles, Joe and Mrs Surch and give my love to Dada Aunt Sisters and Brothers and believe me ever your affect,

James C. Parkinson.

I will write before the Ship sails.
