Letter 41

Oct 27th 51?
Dear James,

I received your note on Saturday evening. I was rather surprised at the length of time you were going over. I hope that you did not get cold. We waited at the quay that night till near 12 o’clock but no sign of the captain coming. You say nothing? about your work or how you like your new quarters. Your Mamma sisters and that interesting young lady Miss Lascelles left town the next evening. I hope before you go that you will write to your Mamma and tell her the way you intend to conduct yourself and? encourage her in your absence as she requires something to keep her up in your absence.

Excuse this scrawl,

I intend to write again,

Please drop me another note.
