The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 13

Armagh
June 13th 1848

William Parkinson Esq.

My dear sir,

In reply to your form? received today I beg to state that I believe Greek to be the most necessary department to which James can direct his attention in vacation. Euclid is not so essential. He is now in the fourth book and before he enters college may be first expected (at least) to know it well.

If it should not burden you and him too much arithmetic (I am ashamed to say) comes next, tho while my … in it … give him … … in order to brush him up for algebra, in which also I hope to …… before he enters.

I am quite … to know what has become of your book. I kept it in the drawer of my dressing table for a long time waiting for an opportunity to send it but in the confusion consequent to our removal I have lost sight of it. I will try again for it and if unsucessful, will get another. I have told James about the watch? also and will endeavour to remind him about it, ere he leaves on Thursday next, or the evening before. I think you will find that he is progressing steadily. Greek is his principal difficulty,

Yours very sincerely,

J. Lester
