The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 5

Killough
Sept 26th (no year)

My dear Jemmy,

Mr N.B. McSurch requests his love to you. Dada suggests that you should try to get one boy to play with you and that might influence others.

I am very sorry to hear of the annoyance you have, but hope that you will make yourself agreeable, and you will find it will be over in a few days. Dada had written to Mr Darley, and is writing again today. Mr Darley is observing the boys, and also making inquiry about you, and he says it will soon cease, and that you will be a happy as possible. Your better plan is to keep quiet, and do all your business well, which will secure you the protection of your masters, and it will be well not to make complaints on the boys, as that would only make them worse. Mamma wishes to know if you feel it cold there and thinks you had better put on your flannel waistcoat. She is preparing warmer clothing for you, and you may expect the steel pens in the parcel. Mamma is pleased to hear of your reading the good books, and I hope you read a chapter in your Bible every day, and pray sincerely to God for his protection, and guidance, and then you will soon find that all will be well. Mention in your next, if you keep the key of your trunk, or box as you will require some place for your letters, and other little articles. I was sorry to see that in your haste you did not attend to the spelling of several words, and hope you will be particular in future. When you use the letter I to express myself, always make use of the capital one thus, I wish and not, i wish. Dada will consult Mr Darley about going to Armagh. The blockins have been very scarce except one day. Grandma, Mamma, and children unite with me in affect love to you. I send 6 stamps,

Your most affect Aunt

M. Eves.
