The James Cumine Parkinson Letters

Letter 3

Dear Sir,

I have the pleasure of saying that the boys here are very happy among each other and very seldom have a dispute. A superintendent always stays with them during their play hours, who take care of little boys and prevents any bullying. Probably not more than one fight takes place in the half year, which of course, I discontenance.

I never knew a school where there is so little annoyance given to each other as this. Still it must depend in a great degree in a boys own temper, whether he should be perfectly free from it. A well tempered good-natured boy is never annoyed and if a boy is peevish and does not take play, he will not be liked by his companions, and so be annoyed but I do everything in my power to discontenance the least approach to tyranny.

Believe me, My dear Sir, Yrs very truely J.R. Darley
