The Nannie Cinnamon and Kate Trimble Letters

Letter 7

11 Rutland Square East
April 27th 1854

My very dear Miss Lascelles

I accept your parting gift with many thanks and shall prize very much indeed. I hope Joe Surch will not be in Belfast before the third of next month. Please God I will leave this on the second for Belfast. I regret much that I cannot take one last look on many I hold dear in Killough but I dread uselessly expending my very crippled finances. I was glad to find you thought favourably with my undertaking for my parents? I hope to hear from you sometimes. Your notes are quite nice Miss Lascelles and need no apology. I go this evening for a short visit to Mrs Le Pan till Saturday. I met Charles Edward Campbell in Sackville Street some day ago. He told me his family were coming up to Dublin. I must not omit to tell you of two very handsome brooches I got as parting gifts from Mrs and Mr Trench. The latter gave me a magnificent evening one set in very large pink topaz with a pendant indeed too handsome for my humble pretensions. The words in which he gave it were more flattering than all. Mrs Trenches is a nice little one in turquoise with a heart studded turquoise and made as a locket for dear little baby Willy's hair. I know dear Miss Lascelles I do not deserve such from them nor do I take it as my merit but as the munificence and goodness to me. I trust Mr Johnston is now better. How I would like to see you all once again. Good bye my dear Miss Lascelles. I shall write to Mrs Surch and tho' I have not done so for so long a time she is often and affectionately remembered by me as well as kind hearted Joe. Except my love and ever believe me to remain your affectionate,

Kate Rogan
