The Nannie Cinnamon and Kate Trimble Letters

Letter 2

Eniskerry

April 30th 1850

My dear Mrs Parkinson,

This is the second note I have commenced to you since my return from Dundalk. Nanny and I regretted greatly we could not see you all once again before we left but the rain was so incessant that we never stirred out of doors during our entire visit there. I trust you all continue well and that little Samuel's eye-brow is quite healed. The weather is very cold and fitful. I suppose you saw an account of the great thunderstorm in Dublin. It must have been very alarming. I was in Dublin the day after and Grafton Street presented a most shattered aspect. The glaziers had a fine harvest. Did Mr Parkinson come up so hear Doctor Achills. His appearance caused a great sensation. I was unable to go to any of the April meetings. I have not had one letter form Nanny since I saw her and Mamma is equally sparing of her pen. I was in bed for a day or two from fatigue and cold prevented my writing to them. I cannot tell you how often I think of you and Mr Parkinson and your nice lovely family. It is most fortunate for you that so many miles intervene between us as I am sure I should at the risk of wearying you I fear, procure pleasure to myself by visiting you very often. At this season of the year my mind is very busy with the past Sunday fortnight being the anniversary of our beloved Sally entering her rest. You may remember you with your usual kindness came into see her and talk to her just a few hours before she left us. When did you hear from Mrs Johnston of Mrs Eaves? Please to speak of me in your own kind way to them all. Maria desired me of seeing you to give you her affectionate love before I went to Ravensdale and in the excitement I forgot to give the message whilst there. I hope it is not too late. I propose enclosing this note to Willy as I have forgotten the address he gave me. I hope soon to be indulged with a note from you and shall conclude with love to dear Mr Parkinson and all the children (Bessy is in my debt a note). Reserve a large share for yourself and believe me my dear Mrs Parkinson your very affectionate

Kate Rogan
